January Construction Update

December was a busy month for construction. Office space in the new building now has utilities and drywall. The cooling units are now in place on the roof. The in-floor heating was installed. In-floor heating in a freezer? It seems odd but it helps to prevent ice-build up, improving safety and decreasing the need to defrost.

In January, we look forward to planning for the existing office space as well as the solar panels in the parking lot. The overall project remains ahead of budget but fell a little behind on time. We still plan to open by this summer!

We continue to gain generous donations for our campaign. The Beck Foundation awarded us $45,000 three-year pledge. We are 80% of the way to our finish line of $10 Million raised. But this will just be the starting point to changing the way we fight hunger in this community. $10 million dollars to

  • Serve 5000 students in our backpack program
  • Triple the number of food donors providing food
  • Increase our storage capacity by 20 times
  • Create operational efficiencies to cut the cost of rescue by 60%
