Meat Hunger

From Farm to Backpack – A Collaboration Between Cultivate and the 4-H Program

Meat Hunger raises funds to purchase livestock from 4-H youth. The goal of Meat Hunger is to provide an above-market turn price for the animals raised by 4-H members.

The livestock are then processed into two-pound packages of ground protein for Cultivate’s food pantry partners and put into frozen backpack meals for children facing food insecurity.

Since it began, the Meat Hunger Program has raised nearly $325,000 to purchase hundreds of animals. Locally sourcing this protein is an environmentally conscious way to feed our hungry neighbors and a great way to financially support our local 4-H students in their endeavors.

Additionally, 4-H students can participate in the Meat Hunger Spark Club. This is designed to incorporate 4-H members in the fundraising process. Children are provided with a framework, education, and guidance to solicit donations on behalf of Cultivate.
