Food Security
You can’t solve hunger if you can’t see it.
Explore the data behind our fight with hunger.
This interactive map brings together data on hunger, access, and transportation to show where barriers exist across our community. It helps us identify gaps, strengthen partnerships, and ensure food reaches the people who need it most.
About Our Food Security Map
The Geography of Hunger—Right Here at Home
Hunger Intelligence is Cultivate Food Rescue’s data-driven effort to better understand where hunger exists and how access barriers shape it across our community. This interactive map brings together data on poverty, food insecurity, pantry partner locations, bus routes, walking coverage, and key demographic indicators in one place. By layering these factors, it helps identify where pantry deserts may exist and where families face the greatest challenges reaching food resources.
Developed in partnership with student teams through the Purdue and Trine Data Mine project, this work combines academic research with real world data analysis to strengthen how we understand and respond to hunger in our region.
More than a map, this tool helps turn data into action. It will guide next steps such as testing a near-zero-hunger census tract, targeting food and partnerships more strategically, and improving logistics so more food reaches the people and neighborhoods that need it most. By making this information visible, we can better align community efforts, close service gaps, and build a smarter path toward reducing hunger across our region.
